WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In the castle of this breathtaking, medieval town in the heart of Italy, come to study and experiment how to merge innovative interactive technology with history and culture.

The workshop provides conceptual background and technical skills to develop interactive installations for arts, museums, facade projections and cultural exhibits. Previous works done by MEDIARS members will provide examples of the work process.

THE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP

It is a 2-week full-time course on visual arts, media theory and technology in their relation to the place. The workshop is designed for students and professionals, scholars and artists from cinema, graphic design, architecture, web designers, media arts and technical fields.

Classes are in English with a high quality tutoring, they are thought for the students to produce at the end of the training, an interactive multimedia art work that will be exhibited in the medieval town. Moreover, this experience abroad has already established an ongoing and growing dialogue between international artists.

This workshop is organized by the non-profit association MEDIARS (Centro Sperimentale di Media Interattivi per l’Arte e lo Spettacolo www.mediars.eu ) in collaboration with the local municipality and invites international faculties and scholars from the University of Southern California, University of Florence, University of California Los Angeles, University of Sabine (Rieti) and University of Rome. With regard to the final work the students will use the technology owned by the Center, and they are free to bring theirs as well. The teachers would support and work as facilitators for the students to get the collective projects done.

THE TOWN

Contigliano is an undiscovered medieval citadel in the center of Italy, in the province of Rieti surrounded by nature, one hour from Rome.

TOURS

Together with our tour guides we are setting up very special tours related to the topic of the project in Rome and surroundings that include most famous historical and contemporary sites as well as out of the main route places. The goal is to visit the most stimulating places to the participants so to come back with the full cultural and intellectual experience.

PROJECT

This year the work process involves creating and extending an interactive experience, for smartphone and table-pc for the Colosseum area. This year we’ll be spending time at the Colosseum to survey and test, in a TV studio to shoot scenes, in “our castle” to attend lectures and work on the project.
